A regular AEWV introduction for adult Chinese offshore primary applicants with an eligible offer. Excludes seasonal routes, renewal transitions, Job Change, dependants and self-employment. Employer-linked temporary work permission, not residence approval.
These are separate applications, not automatic upgrades. Employment, role, personal eligibility and work history matter. A Resident Visa is also distinct from a Permanent Resident Visa.
Eligible Tier 1 employment may support Straight to Residence; an AEWV is not necessarily a prerequisite.
Official requirementsQualifying NZ work periods, role, pay and visa history are required for Tier 2 residence; this is not an initial work visa.
Official requirementsCheck accreditation, approved Job Check and genuine work of at least 30 hours weekly. Minimum skills normally require two years of relevant experience or NZQCF level 4 or higher, subject to applicable exemptions. Also check market pay, employer requirements, registration, English, health and character.

Employer completes accreditation and Job Check, provides the offer and application link; applicant supplies evidence and applies, then follows the granted work and travel conditions.
Employer handles accreditation, recruitment and Job Check, then supplies employment documents and the application link. Applicant lodgement does not replace these steps. Official guidance
Check skills and employer requirements against actual duties. A self-written CV alone does not prove experience; check registration where applicable. Official guidance
Use the employer-provided application link and accurate evidence; beware of purchased offers or guaranteed-approval promises. Official guidance
Check employer, role and location conditions. For changes, check Job Change, variation or new-visa requirements; varying conditions does not extend expiry. Official guidance
Introductory preparation summary, not a complete checklist, individual advice or a visa guarantee. Follow official pages and individual notices. Reviewed: 2026-10-25
Since 1 June 2026, regular AEWV English rules also cover skill level 3, not only levels 4 and 5. Existing-holder transitional exemptions are outside this first-application scope. Check ANZSCO or applicable NOL classification; five years is not universal.
Employers cannot charge for the job or pass recruitment costs to you; distinguish legitimate application/evidence costs from buying work. Official guidance
Check the role, contract, rules and personal decision; a maximum of five years is not a guaranteed five-year grant. Official guidance
Check AEWV and Green List residence separately. Any two years of work do not automatically qualify, and AEWV is not mandatory before every residence route. Official guidance
Download a blank English PDF checklist to print and mark offline. This is not an exhaustive lodgement checklist; official requirements take precedence.
